Details: Pop Up Shop at Odessa 8/6

ONLINE BOUTIQUE, STRANGE FRUIT VINTAGE, ENGAGES
IN THE ART OF “POPPING-UP” AT ODESSA, FRIDAY AUGUST 6TH.

Strange Fruit Vintage, an online boutique specializing in quality and hand-selected clothing for men and women from the 1980s, will be transforming Odessa located at 2613 Broad Avenue into an eighties-inspired clothing store for one night only.

Friday, August 6, 2010 from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. attendees can expect to shop through more than 200 vintage pieces from the $5 - $60 price range in an artistically transformed space that will be inspired by avant garde artist, Keith Haring. Music will be provided by DJ Homework with a guest performance by classic rap artist Cities Aviv. Additionally, a portion of proceeds from an era-specific $5 photobooth will benefit the Odessa building fund.

“As a visual artist, I like to infuse not only the unique and memorable clothing from the eighties but also the entire popular culture experience into every element of Strange Fruit Vintage. For many of my younger customers, the upcoming Strange Fruit Vintage ‘Pop-Up Shop’ will be an innovative history lesson. For many of my customers it will be a trip down memory lane. For all of my customers it will be an unprecedented opportunity in Memphis to shop for rare eighties attire for one day only,” says owner Shalishah “Petey” Franklin.

The online vintage boutique located at www.strangefruitvintage.com signified its opening in early spring with a launch party, “everyday people” fashion show, vintage clothes for sale and more than one hundred attendees at MPact Memphis, a membership organization for young professionals.

Since then, Strange Fruit Vintage has been featured in the Memphis Flyer, a “Flipside Memphis” documentary produced by Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau in partnership with Live from Memphis and on numerous blogs including ILoveMemphisBlog.com.

“We have been fortunate to gain an eclectic and diverse following in Memphis and it felt only right to do the first pop-up shop here, at home. As an online boutique, this will be a rare opportunity for our core customers to touch, feel and try on the vintage clothing before they buy. Hosting the event at Odessa reinforces my love for art, vintage clothing and Memphis,” says Franklin.
